Galaxy newbie Posted July 11, 2013 Report Posted July 11, 2013 Hi guys need some help, am almost at the end of my engine swap, and I have had the car running fine, but today I replaced the front discs and pads and now I have a problem. When I go to start the car the dash lights come on ok, then when I turn the key to start her, I get an electrical clicking from the engine bay and all the dash lights flicker, and I'm getting another clicking noise coming from the fuse box area (by drivers feet). Engine isn't turning at all. Car has not actually been driven yet as it has no t&t but it has been starting first turn of the key every time and straight away. I think it's possibly a relay but am not sure. So could some kind soul point me in the first place to start hunting. Thank you sooooo much. Andy Quote
Galaxy newbie Posted July 11, 2013 Author Report Posted July 11, 2013 Thank you for the fast reply, will try putting the battery from my other galaxy on it tomorrow and see if that does the job, anything else I can try if that happens to not be the problem. :-) Quote
Galaxy newbie Posted July 11, 2013 Author Report Posted July 11, 2013 Also have run vag com on her, and I keep getting error 18080 coolant fan control 1. Have tried clearing it and it keeps coming back. Would this be the Main fans on the rad, and best way to tackle it? (Climate panel is flashing and I'm hoping its to do with this error). Thank you. SilverBeast Posted July 11, 2013 Report Posted July 11, 2013 If other Galaxy runs may be easier and quicker to try and jump start. If you have been starting and not running for any length of time it is likely the battery is flattened. Check the Battery Junction Box (in front of battery that red +ve lead from battery goes into). These are notorious for bad crimps on the top and second from top leads on the RHS. Open top and look for evidence of overheating/scorching/distortion. Link I believe you are correct and it is the radiator fan but can't help you any further myself - I'm sure some of the more experienced gurus will be along soon Quote
seatkid Posted July 11, 2013 Report Posted July 11, 2013 I think its best to get the car running first - the clicking sounds suspiciously like a flat battery. The errors might go away when the car is operating with correct battery voltage. Quote
Galaxy newbie Posted July 13, 2013 Author Report Posted July 13, 2013 Just to let you guys know, I changed the battery and all is fine once again. Although I'm still getting the recurring error on the coolant fan, even after clearing the codes. Any ideas? Quote
andymudge Posted July 14, 2013 Report Posted July 14, 2013 if the climate panel is flashing it may well be the actual head unit at fault , we had one that did the same . Get a new climate control module from a breaker and replace , pretty str8 forward. PS if it only blinks for a short while when you start the car its probs fine as they have been known to do this whilst assessing the air temp Quote
seatkid Posted July 14, 2013 Report Posted July 14, 2013 check that when the climate control is set to auto, the main radiator fan should run at half speed. If its not running it could be a faulty fan control module or fan or wiring/connection problem. Quote
